Haywire Twist

The knot is used when tying steel leader to a swivel or to a hook.

Run steel leader through eye of hook and bend back in the direction of the leader.
Form the desired loop size by continuing to bend the leader material back around itself. (Important Note: Do not bend the leader material at a sharp angle for risk of putting a kink in the leader, which will quickly lead to failure.)
Make another three loops around the leader.
Make a loop that is much tighter. When you are “wrapping” this loop, your leader end will be almost perpendicular to the leader itself.
Make another three tight loops.
Bend the leader material forward.
Bend the leader material back.

Repeat this action until the tag end of the leader breaks off.  (Important Note: This will leave a smooth break. If you cut it with pliers, there will be a sharp end remaining.)
